Kimberly Hepner, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice and a Senior Behavioral Scientist at the RAND Corporation. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Hepner's research has focused on approaches to assess and improve quality of care for mental health and substance use problems. She has led several large studies assessing the quality of care received by patients with unhealthy alcohol use, substance use disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, pain, and mild traumatic brain injury. Dr. Hepner has extensive expertise in assessing quality of care for Veterans, service members and their families. In addition, she has led multiple studies to identify barriers and facilitators to delivering evidence-based psychotherapy, increase feasibility and quality of provider psychotherapy training, and on measurement-based care.
Dr. Hepner has published over 90 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and her work has been featured in several media outlets. She has served on the American Psychological Association’s Advisory Steering Committee for Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines and APA’s Advisory Committee for Measurement-based Care and the Mental and Behavioral Health Registry. She has led numerous cognitive behavioral therapy trainings for providers, with a focus on substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders. Dr. Hepner sees adult and adolescent patients in her private telehealth practice in California.
